Art Classes at Lockside Art Center

Lockside Art Center announces its 2016 Spring and Summer art class schedule. All classes are taught by experienced art instructors. Preregistration is required; please contact the instructor for more information, registration, and a supplies list. Additional classes may be available. More information on each class is available at the center, or call the instructors listed below. Classes may be available Monday through Friday days or evenings, and some classes are available on Saturdays.

Spring Art Classes

OIL PAINTING CLASS

George V. Miller, award-winning artist teaches the renaissance approach to painting. This series of classes includes proper way to hold the brush, prepare the canvas, how to research subject matter, layout and composition, and the application of paint. PASTEL PAINTING CLASS

Beginning and intermediate pastel painting for students 16 and up. Offered by award-winning artist Jeannette Pikturna. She will teach the grid drawing method, color selection, blending techniques, applying the medium, layering, adding pastel pencil. BEGINNING AND INTERMEDIATE WATERCOLOR CLASS

Award-winning artist Debbie Retzlaff teaches basic and intermediate Watercolor. Classes cover understanding watercolor brushes, paints and paper. Classes will cover fundamentals of watercolor painting, composition, color mixing and design. We will also learn some fun special effects of splatter, splash and pouring paint creating beautiful pictures along the way! A basic supply list will be provided at the first class. DRY FELTING CLASS

Award-winning artist Debbie Retzlaff will introduce the basics of dry needle felting, a fun and easy process using pre-felted and raw wool. OUTDOOR PHOTOGRAPHY

Offered by award-winning photographer Karen Gast of KAREN GAST PHOTOGRAPHY. This is a six-hour class over two days. On Saturday July 25, 10am-2pm, we will take photographs at Upson Park to Flight of Five, Clinton Street, Lockport. On Sunday, July 26, 2pm-4pm, we will look at and discuss the previous days photographs at Lockside Art Center, 21 Main at Pine.

HOW TO USE YOUR DIGITAL CAMERA

Award-winning photographer Karen Gast of KAREN GAST PHOTOGRAPHY, Lockport, NY will offer beginners’ classes on "Introduction to digital photography" and "How to use your specific digital camera". Karen is an experienced local business owner and photographer with extensive expertise in framing, photography and photo restoration. Karen has had many interests but has a special place in her heart for the Erie Canal and the place it holds in our local history. Karen's attention to detail is evident in her work and in her teaching skills.

PHOTO EDITING FOR BEGINNERS

Award-winning photographer Karen Gast will instruct students in a series of two- 2 hour classes on photo editing with Photoshop Elements (c) for beginners. Local award-winning photographer and business owner, Karen Gast has expertise in framing and in photo restoration in addition to over 50 years of photography experience. Karen enjoys the technical side of photography and is always on the cutting-edge.

Participants must attend both classes. Students will learn how to download images from their cameras, how to save and file them appropriately, how to adjust colors, remove red-eye, crop images, clone and other basic tasks using this program. Reference materials will be given to each student to take home along with bonus information on many websites to obtain free software programs. Participants will need to bring their cameras, memory card, extra batteries and manuals. If you have editing software such as Adobe Photoshop Elements©, please bring your laptop and charger.
